These must be seen in person for full effect! Starts first friday December 2nd from 6-9pm 473 25th street between Broadway and Telegraph in Oakland.

Adam Wolpert's newest work is extended at the Wall Gallery to March 6th Through April 1st! His beautiful small scale series paintings are visual poetry. Each image series arranged in groupings selected by the artist, reveals the evocative beauty of the natural world. What may seem random at first glance quickly begins to exude implied meanings that speak directly to the heart rather than the discursive mind. His varied imagery explores the themes of cycles, relationships and balance, and investigates the subtle distinction between the representational and the abstract. Come on down and see us on the next Oakland Art Murmur first friday March 6th at 473 25th street in Oakland, between Broadway and Telegraph... open 5-9pm

CLAIRE PASQUIER / PAINTINGS SEPT. 5TH - 30TH

CLAIRE PASQUIER "The first of my two styles focused on cinema and my aesthetic experience of it as a child. With a palette knife I reproduced scenes from VHS tapes that had affected me and questioned my relationship with them. It was both a study in these iconic moments that now overlapped into my new geography and an artistic meditation on what the screen actually looked like. Computers had already accustomed us to flat, high definition virtual worlds but the truth is that these scenes were filled with static and  imperfections. My work has pushed me to analyze the power of these memory images, how I see them in relationship to my current life and memories, and to question the overlap of the television screen and the world around me. Recently these questions have lead me to apply the moiré effect found in old television screens to reproduced images from my personal life and Californian culture."
"The second of my styles turned to the concept of the screen as a portal to our identity in the age of internet. I spent eighteen months in residence at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery painting over 180 portraits of people who contacted me through Facebook. I wanted to find a way to bridge my training as a portraitist with the concept of visual identity in a world that was becoming rapidly digital. In a day of excessive personal sharing and over exposure it was fascinating to realize how few of us actually consider our image as something outside of the digital screen space."
"As I continue to explore the concept of the screen and its implications on space and identity, I hope to expand my practice and discover new meaning in an increasingly virtual world through both traditional and modern painting techniques."

"you might have seen this French woman....what you didn't know is that she's an artist...she did a portrait project as the resident artist at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery in 2012. Currently she is exploring the moire effect as a new way to look at paintings in the age of smartphones and mobile photography".

STEVE LOMPREY / SCI-FI SERIES JULY 4TH – AUG. 15TH

Steve Lomprey brings his Sci-Fi series to the wall gallery this month. As is often the case, what started out as a small scale experiment turned into a series of paintings. Lomprey has been circling around the intergalactic and imagined space themes recently. Now it's expressing itself in a confluence of surfaces that suggest the emergence of elemental forms, or perhaps the birthplace of the manifested within a field of chaos.

Come on down this first friday June 6th from 5:30-9:00. Hope to see you! Otherwise, you can come by anytime from 1-5pm thursdays thru saturdays, the doors will be open. IRENE NELSON / MIXED MEDIA MONOPRINTS JUNE 6TH THRU JULY 2ND

Irene Nelson will be exhibiting her beautiful Mixed Media Monoprints this month. On her work Nelson says, "These recent prints evoke "internal" landscapes I draw up from within without external referents. Using black ink on a plate I employ a subtractive wiping method using tartalan cloths, sharp tools, dry brushes, etc. to brush ink away. Finally, I use collaging techniques to add back color selectively. Often, I use materials I've made myself (hand made paper, etc.) The results of these layerings are dark brooding unspecific black and white landscapes, with interior "windows" that open onto other, similar receding landscapes of color and light."

Come on down this first friday June 6th from 5:30-9:00. Hope to see you! Otherwise, you can come by anytime from 1-5pm thursdays thru saturdays, the doors will be open. Don't miss the Saturday Stroll either!! Much less crowded but just as fun...every Saturday from 1-5pm. Click on picture to see it larger.

HEATHER DAY NOV.1st - NOV. 27th

The Wall Gallery presents HEATHER DAY. Heather Day was born in Ewa Beach, Hawaii and spent most of her younger years living in the Washington DC area. She received her BFA in painting and art history from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD. While studying at MICA, Day began showing her paintings in Washington DC, Chicago and other select cities. Day creates work that involves a process of layering paint, fibers and various energetic marks. She's interested in the relationship between decay and upkeep that relies heavily on human interaction. These paintings are never planned. Each piece is a product of an experience, leaving behind documentation of how an event transpired. The paintings often act as pages in a book requiring several in a series to tell a story. Day currently lives and works in Oakland, CA.

This new show will coincide with the Oakland Art Murmur's first friday November 1st from 6:00 - 9:00. The show will continue now through to the 27th of November. Hope to see you there! Otherwise, you can come by anytime from Fridays to Saturdays 12- 6 pm , the doors will be open. Click on the picture to see it larger.
